Nicolas Economou is the chairman and CEO of H5. In addition to being responsible for H5's overall corporate strategy and operations, he advises general counsels' offices and leading law firms on review and analysis processes for litigation, investigations, and related legal information management. Mr. Economou contributes actively to advancing dialogue on public policy challenges at the intersection of law, science, and technology. Working with Harvard Law Professor Arthur R. Miller and Georgetown University Law Center, Mr. Economou led the design of a groundbreaking summit on law, technology, and policy, where he spoke alongside Justice Stephen Breyer. He was featured in the October 2007 issue of Forbes magazine and is the author of a number of published articles on issues relating to information risk management, technology, and the practice of law. He has spoken before legal audiences at a wide variety of conferences and organizations, including Stanford Law School, the American Bar Association, and the American Intellectual Property Law Association. Mr. Economou directs H5's participation in The Sedona Conference's Electronic Document Retention and Production Working Group. He has also served on both corporate and non-profit boards. Mr. Economou holds a B.A. in international public law and political science from the Graduate Institute of International Studies of the University of Geneva (Switzerland) and an M.B.A. in finance from the Wharton School of Business.

Jeff Kangas
Executive Managing Director
Jeff Kangas leads H5's Professional Services Group, which provides services that enable corporate legal offices and law firms to more effectively manage their document review and document management initiatives. Mr. Kangas brings over 15 years of experience, both in managing client service organizations, and in providing advisory and consulting services to public and private corporations, law firms, and government agencies. He has overseen the implementation of major proactive information management initiatives at Fortune 50 companies and consulted on document discovery strategies for large, complex cases, including major securities fraud, antitrust, and product liability cases. He has also spoken at industry conferences on electronic discovery. Prior to joining H5, Mr. Kangas was a manager and consultant with PricewaterhouseCoopers. Mr. Kangas earned a B.S. in business administration from Bucknell University and has studied at the Wharton School of Business.

Eoin Beirne
Executive Managing Director
Eoin Beirne leads H5’s operations and technology groups, managing the design, development and deployment of H5’s technology systems to enable clients to derive meaningful organization of voluminous data collections. He has extensive experience in investigative, technology, and litigation consulting, specializing in complex data management and analysis and the application of technology to large-scale information management matters. Before joining H5, Mr. Beirne was a manager in the Mergers and Acquisitions Group at PricewaterhouseCoopers, where he consulted for public and private companies on M&A transactions in the technology sector, transaction-related accounting due diligence, transaction pricing disputes, and other contractual issues. Mr. Beirne earned his B.A. magna cum laude in business administration from the University of Notre Dame with concentrations in accounting and philosophy.
Julia Brickell, Esq.
Executive Managing Director and General Counsel
Julia Brickell is executive managing director and general counsel of H5. In addition to overseeing the legal affairs of the company, including corporate governance and legal compliance issues, Ms. Brickell advises on corporate strategy. Prior to joining H5, Ms. Brickell was associate general counsel of Altria Client Services from 2000 to 2008. She focused on product liability litigation, risk assessment, and electronic data management. From 1998 to 2000, Ms. Brickell served as vice president and deputy general counsel of Philip Morris USA. Prior to joining Philip Morris, Ms. Brickell practiced at Davis, Polk & Wardwell in New York, where she handled antitrust, securities, professional malpractice, and commercial litigation. Ms. Brickell is a frequent lecturer on methods of evaluating and addressing the strategic challenges and risks posed to companies by the explosion of electronically stored information. She is on the board of Lawyers for Civil Justice and serves on the faculty of Columbia University’s Executive Master of Science in Technology Management program. Ms. Brickell obtained her B.A. from Smith College and her J.D. from Columbia University School of Law.

Steve Whitehurst
Executive Managing Director
As head of H5’s Global Practice Management team, Steve Whitehurst leads all aspects of the company's practice management and consulting services, focusing on new market expansion and strategic operations. Mr. Whitehurst brings more than 20 years of experience in managing operations, client services, marketing, and product delivery in the technology sector to H5. Prior to joining H5, Mr. Whitehurst was senior vice president and general manager at McKesson Corporation, a Fortune 20 company and the nation’s leading healthcare IT company. At McKesson, he led the life sciences–laboratory solutions and automation businesses, where he focused on new market expansion and the development of a next-generation laboratory information system, including genomics. Mr. Whitehurst received his B.A. from St. Mary's College.
Robert S. Bauer, Ph.D.
Chief Technology Officer
CTO Bob Bauer has over 30 years of leadership in turning innovative technologies into strategic advantages. Dr. Bauer is the former vice president and founding CTO of Xerox Global Services. He joined Xerox’s Palo Alto Research Center (PARC) in its inaugural year of 1970. On PARC senior staff, he led the Systems Science Laboratory and helped create PARC’s Advanced Systems Development Lab. These organizations delivered socio-technical innovations that leveraged deep understanding of how people can better manage increasing amounts of information in the workplace. He has incubated and helped create many companies that leverage innovative technologies that help businesses be more productive. He is a fellow of the American Physical Society, and has been an advisor for the National Academy of Sciences, the National Science Foundation, UNESCO, and the federal Departments of Commerce, Defense, and Homeland Security. Dr. Bauer earned M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from Stanford University.

Michael Rubenstein, Esq.
Managing Director of Global Practice Management
Michael Rubenstein is a managing director of H5’s Global Practice, leading the company’s On-Demand Litigation Solutions line of business. Over the past four years, he has managed engagements involving the review and analysis of over 100 million pages of text for clients in the financial services, healthcare, energy, and technology sectors. He has also led the development of H5’s most significant business alliances, including the company’s strategic relationship with O’Melveny & Myers LLP. Prior to joining H5, Mr. Rubenstein served as managing partner of Document Technologies, Inc., a national litigation services firm, where he oversaw regional operations including multiple outsourced document and data production facilities. A former practicing attorney at Kilpatrick Stockton LLP, he has also held a variety of client development and marketing positions in emerging legal technology firms, including CaseCentral, Inc., a provider of legal data repository and software application services. Ricky Datta
Director of Engineering
As director of engineering, Ricky Datta manages the planning, design, development, and deployment of the proprietary software tools that power H5’s document review and analytic systems. His expertise includes building extremely large data-driven business applications, business process automation software, and datacenter software. Most recently, Mr. Datta was director of engineering at DirecTV Corporation. Mr. Datta has 21 years of experience in various engineering roles including previous engagements at Symantec Corp., Compaq Corp., and several startups. He earned his B.T. from the Indian Institute of Technology in New Delhi.
Bruce Hedin, Ph.D.
Principal Scientist
Bruce Hedin is H5’s principal scientist. At H5 Dr. Hedin’s areas of focus have been process design, sampling, and metrics. Previously, Dr. Hedin worked at YY Technologies, a firm developing natural language processing software. His publications include “Domain Analysis and Representation” in The Handbook for Language Engineers (2003), and “Searching in all the Wrong Places: The Effectiveness of Search Tools in E-Discovery,” Digital Discovery & e-Evidence (January 2007). Dr. Hedin is a member the Sedona Conference's Electronic Document Retention and Production Working Group (WG1). In 2007, he was invited to serve as a coordinator for the TREC Legal Track benchmarking initiative under the auspices of the National Institute of Standards and Technology at the United States Department of Commerce and has served in that role since then. Dr. Hedin received a B.A. from Cornell University and a Ph.D. from Stanford University.
